2020 Vision

2020 Vision for Moreton Bay Regional Council

My Vision is simple and easy to understand. For years now we have been watching as the Moreton Bay Region has sunk to a new low level of greed, ambition, and alleged corruption. And it starts at the top and goes right through the whole organisation. I know this because I have been speaking about it now for five years.

For some unknown reason, we are our worst enemies, voting in people who care more about their hip pockets rather than looking after the community who voted them in. And I can and will give many examples of this as we move forward.

This election will be different to others in the past as I’ll actually be informing people of what is going on behind closed doors, and I won’t be pulling any punches when the real campaigning starts.

I’ll also be visiting your Divisions to speak to you, so I can get a real understanding of your concerns and needs.

My Vision is for our community to be proud, to be happy, and to hopefully stop all the petitions and unrest. And for us all to pull together in the one direction, and work together for the good of the community of Moreton Bay. This is not a politician speaking here. This is a man who has moved here to retire, who wants some peace, and to enjoy his life, enjoy the great surrounds of this wonderful Queensland lifestyle. As I’ve said before, I’m no different to anyone else. Eric Shields

Hi Folks and welcome to my web page and if you’ve only just taken an interest in the next Local Election due on Saturday, 28th March 2020 or wanting to know more about me, then there are many stories, videos and important issues on the site that may be of interest to you.

For the last six years I have been supporting the community on many issues that concern them.

I first became involved in Local Community matters when the MBRC placed a High Risk Flood Cover over all the coastal regions of Moreton Bay (including my home), as part of their Regional Plan.

I was angry as were many residents that the value of our homes was being attacked but the worst problem to come out of all of this was that the MBRC got it all so wrong so many times and even the LNP Government at the time said they weren’t going to pass the regional plan due to its many faults.

It’s history now that a change of Government saw Jackie Trad get on board with Allan Sutherland and the residents of Moreton Bay were shafted.

The really ridiculous thing is we again have a Labor Minister in Cameron Dick (the current Queensland Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning), who has done a complete about face from the previous Labor Minister (Jackie Trad) and has now knocked back many of the changes proposed by the MBRC in this Regional Plan, you could say that the residents of Moreton Bay have been bounced back and forward like a tennis ball depending on who’s running things in the State Government.

You can view the Property Council of Australia’s article about it below:

This nonsense will stop if I’m elected to Mayor and the residents of Moreton Bay will finally have someone who will be upfront with them, support them and do his very best to ensure a safe and secure life for families here in Moreton Bay.

Over the years I have also been responsible for releasing details of The Moreton Futures Trust which has seen both our region and the State of Queensland going crazy looking into how Councillors were taking money from developers and businessmen to get themselves re-elected, it was all hidden at how the money was both sent, received and declared with no names mentioned but companies that weren’t well known to the public, they are now.

The really worrying thing is this wasn’t just for the last Local Council election, this had been going on for a while and most Councillors tried to shake it off with the excuse that it was ok because the LGAQ had said it was ok. We are all now fully aware that it was not ok, and the CCC Belcarra hearings clearly showed that.

You can see clearly how it was all done and what amounts passed hands. Click the button below to read all about it, and learn how “They All Drank From The Same Well“.

In short, with what has now happened with these scandals, it has now created a huge problem with perceived conflict of interest with most of our elected Councillors who are now unable to vote on many major issues that concern our region. And on a few occasions now, the decisions have been left up to the CEO, who is not an elected official voted in by the community, but a paid administrator who answers to the Mayor.

It’s a ridiculous situation with most of our Councillors now sitting back and waiting for the next election to come around so they can run for Council again.

I will say once again as part of putting a stop to what has been going on, I will get rid of MBRIT (the tourist arm of the MBRC) and bring regional events back to Council and I will sever ties with the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ). These changes will immediately make all Councillors responsible for their actions, and will bring about a whole new level of openness and transparency that hasn’t been seen here before in Moreton Bay.

As with most people who work for a living, I have been judged on performance and results during my working life, and that’s exactly what Councillors will be doing under my watch after this next local election.

My Policies have been out for a while now, and I speak about things such as the homeless, youth unemployment and activities, getting rid of alleged corruption in our local council, project priorities, small business, Unitywater and Council rates, MBRIT, Council Workplace relations, The Moreton Bay Community Consultation Committee (The CCC), Environment and Animal Habitats and much more.

Yes it’s going to be a very busy four years and I’m ready to get stuck in and make the changes you both need and have asked for.

From time to time I may add to my policies if I feel that further changes are needed and I can assure everyone if I am elected to Mayor of Moreton Bay things will start happening from day one, you folks will be taken on a journey of change and I’ve said a number of times now, we are all here at the right time and the right place to lay the foundations of a wonderful new life for our families and future here in Moreton Bay.

Now is a time that our local community has the power to change their lives like never before, and you now have someone in me who knows the systems, the people, and what needs to be done.

We may never have a time and opportunity like this again. You folks can now shape your own lives and future if I’m elected to be your Mayor.

I’ve said many times now, think of yourselves, your families, and your local community, and elect a Council that will serve you, not themselves.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my website, and I hope you get a good feeling that things are about to change here in Moreton Bay.

I will be a Mayor of the people.

My best regards

Eric Shields
