Hi Moreton Bay,
As we head towards the next Local Election on Saturday, 28 March 2020 I want to give you as much information as I can on what I’m about and what I wish to do for Moreton Bay.
Over the last six years as a community advocate I have been involved in matters that have directly affected many people’s lives in our region, things such as the MBRC Flood plan, alleged corruption, animal habitats, conflict of interest with Councillors and business people, intimidation of MBRC staff and the public, the breakdown of relationships between the different levels of Government and much more.
It was never my intention to run for any political office as I was happily enjoying my retirement and loving my new life here in Moreton Bay, but things happen for a reason and it is my firm belief that this was meant to be and I’ve now got to a point where I feel compelled to stand up and get involved.
We are all here right now at this time and this place to affect real change that will see us into the future and this is also my chance to give a little back to Queensland and Moreton Bay for my new life.
I can assure the residents of Moreton Bay that this is not a career move on my part but a chance to change what’s currently in place and give the region a choice, more of the same or change.
Recently we have seen Mayor Allan Sutherland announce his retirement and now arrested by the CCC, we have also now seen Cr Adrian Raedel arrested and charged by the CCC for alleged corruption, we have seen the MBRC CEO Daryl Hitzman resign and now also seeing a scathing report handed down by Grassroots Connections which revealed many major problems within the MBRC, the HR Department, staff intimidation, staff job security, relationships problems between Government departments, the loss of public confidence in their Council and many scandals which involved CCC hearings, investigations and even arrests, with maybe more to come.
The very things I have been speaking about for six years now and it is just outrageous what has been going on behind closed doors at the MBRC.
These are also matters I have spoken about many times over the last six years and I also take it very seriously when I hear the many concerns made by current and former staff members about the intimidation of MBRC staff, some of whom have also got in contact with me to make me aware of what was going on behind closed doors.
I am just outraged at the way this Council has disrespected both staff and the community over so many years since the amalgamation.
I can also mention that two senior MBRC staff members (one of whom worked with MBRIT) and also controlled large departments and staff numbers also told me the same thing when they were also dumped from their jobs and I’ve also had numerous current and ex MBRC staff members who have told me about widespread intimidation towards staff members. So I’m very much aware of what has been going on.
This will stop under my watch and new staff systems will be put in place to both monitor performance and also create job security.
I’m very much aware that if elected to Mayor I am about to take on a job that will be starting from scratch and then rebuilding the trust and confidence in both the public and staff who work and live here in Moreton Bay.
I want to feel pride that we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and I’m sure that we all want a peaceful and harmonious life free of corruption and ambitious self serving people.
We are about to take a journey together of change and I’m now excited to see that this may very well happen,
Candidate for Mayor of Moreton Bay.
Countdown to a change for the better!
The Moreton Bay Regional Council Elections are held every 4 years on the last Saturday of March.
The next Election will be held on 28th Mar 2020, and that will be your opportunity to send a message to the incumbent Mayor.
Vote for change, and a better representative of the people in the entire region.
I’m Eric Shields and I will be running for the position of Mayor of the Moreton Bay Regional Council when the Election is held on the 28th March 2020.
I will end corruption, and make Council work for the people, and I will not do deals of self interest with Developers.
I will work for the Community and make the region a better place.
